that’s the way the cookie crumbles

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

You know the saying, that’s the way the cookie crumbles? Well this time of year it’s the way the gingerbread, chocolate chip, sugar cookie and your grandma’s favorite recipe for those yummy little bites crumble. But unlike this favorite idiom that means well bad things happen and you just have to except it, you can do something about the way the cookie crumbles. You can search the web for healthier versions of your favorites or load up on high fiber treats and leave the cookie eating for that one special day to indulge. If the damage has already been done have no fear its never too late to start. Millions of Americans make resolutions for better health in the New Year and RockStar Fit is here to help.

Keep checking for healthy tips throughout the year or log onto our blog to get some of your own questions answered. And for all of you who live in the Los Angeles area this is you lucky day!! Give yourself a pat on the back if you made it through Halloween without pigging out on candy.  If you did over indulge, no fear, just get back into your routine.  As a fitness professional I will advise you to be active everyday.  But let’s be realistic, no one expects you to be perfect.  So, if you stumble get up and try again.  Don’t get discouraged and give up.  Stay positive and move forward.  It is perfectly okay to give yourself a break every now and then, just remember don’t take too many days off or you may lose your momentum! :)

It’s Halloween in Hollywood

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Halloween is around the corner and the temptation to eat candy is here.  It starts early. You know the routine, you buy a bag for”the trick or treater’s” and you end up having to go out and buy more because the bag is gone before the 15th of Oct.  I know, It’s everywhere, at the grocery store, at the gas station, at the drug store, there are those cute little candy corns and all of our other favorite treats dressed in orange and black.

So what is so bad about a little sugar?  Why should you opt for natural sugars instead of added? Well, a medium apple for instance has 15g of sugar, the same as 3 teaspoons of sugar from the sugar bowl.  The difference is that the added sugar goes into your bloodstream immediately.  If you don’t use up that energy within 2 or 3 minutes it will be put into your fat deposit. The sugar from the apple takes a few hours to get to the bloodstream, and you have a few hours to use the energy.

So unless you have just gotten off the football field for a quick mini snickers before you go back into the game, you probably won’t be burning those cute little candies off.  So this year try to stay on track, don’t buy the candy until the night before, and opt for more healthy snacks the rest of the month.  Don’t let the treats trick you this year, they are the same empty calories, just dressed differently.
